theresa chavez, PRODUCING artistic director
Theresa CHAVEZ (she/her) is co-founder and Producing Artistic Director of About…Productions. She is an interdisciplinary theater artist whose work, as director, playwright and producer, has has engaged with numerous communities, and cultural and educational institutions, locally and nationally. Over the past thirty years this work has focused on uncovering buried cultural histories, and exploring notions of cultural identity and authenticity.
Sofija “JAY” Dutcher, administrative director
Sofija “Jay” Dutcher (she/her, he/him) is a queer theater-maker, visual artist and avid participant in L.A.’s independent theatre community. Directed, produced and stage managed productions with Celebration Theatre, Sacred Fools Theatre Company, LOFT Ensemble, Flat Tire Theatre Company, Skypilot Theatre Company, and more. Her past arts administration work includes marketing and communications for the Emerging Arts Leaders/Los Angeles. As a multidisciplinary artist, she uses her variety of skills to assist in telling and elevating personal stories, encouraging vulnerable storytelling, and providing the freedom to play, heal, and connect with one another through art and performance.
Efrain schunior, program coordinator
Efrain Schunior (he/him) is a queer director, sound designer and producer living and working in Los Angeles. He received his BA in Theatre from New Mexico State University and his MFA in Directing from UCLA, where he was awarded the Gilbert Cates Scholarship and the Kohler Family Scholarship. He is the creator and festival director of El Centro del Sur, a Latiné theater festival in South Central that was funded by the NEA in its inaugural year. As a first-generation college graduate, he is passionate about theater education and helping young people discover their voices.
Marlene beltran cuauhtin, Young Theaterworks Program Manager
Marlene Beltran Cuauhtin (she/her) is a Teaching Artist, Singer/Songwriter, and Actor/Director. For About…Productions’ Young Theaterworks program she has served as Lead Teaching Artist, Teaching Artist/Playwright Mentor and Actor since 2016 for the company's residency and workshop programs in East L.A. and Pasadena. She served as a director for the 2019 Latino Scene Showcase co-produced by the National Hispanic Media Coalition and About...Productions. She is a member of Los Angeles-based performance groups In Lak Ech, Las Ramonas, and Cuicani.
